November 1st marks 500 days without a home for our sweet and goofy guy, Cooder.

Cooder was a scared little puppy when he was found as a stray by one of our volunteers. He was scared and alone, wandering the streets in search of a home to embrace him with love. He was taken to Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) waiting for his owners to come and get him. When no one came, we brought him to our rescue.
Everyone at Bonaparte’s fell in love with this water-loving goofball right way. It wasn’t hard. Cooder is the best, most loving and loyal dog as soon as he knows and trusts you. Like most of the dogs that we rescue though, it isn’t all rainbows and sunshine. Because of his unknown history as a puppy and never knowing the love of a home, Cooder can be reactive and worried about all the people, dogs, and things he sees while out walking, and he can sometimes be easily spooked by new people or new things, or unexpected sounds or movement. That makes him challenging to manage on leash due to his size and strength and he is not a good candidate for a home with young children or as a “city-leash dog.”

Cooder will take a bit of patience, but we know this big, goofy, ball of joy has someone out there for him - that perfect home with a large fenced-in backyard or even some farmland and a buddy to run and play with. He knows his forever home is out there and he’s ready for you!
Adopt Cooder
In honor of Cooder and his 500th day at Bonaparte’s Retreat Dog Rescue, we are partnering with Tiny But Mighty Fund and AVO and asking you to set a fundraising goal of $500 for the first two weeks of November to help Cooder and the other dogs like him who may be overlooked in a shelter because of physical trauma, age, poor health, or behavioral needs and in some cases in danger of euthanasia.
